Fall Preview: 9 Romances I Can't Wait to Read

Cropped_Fallreading_225While driving to work this morning, I passed a heap of golden leaves crouched at the edge of the road. Yes, fall is on its way.

But given the marvelous books that await romance readers, I'm more excited than depressed by the turning of the seasons.

Here are nine romance novels coming out this fall that I can't wait to read.

Because I'm Watching by Christina Dodd - The third novel in Dodd's Virtue Falls series is, I believe, her best. Two unusual protagonists--he's the town hermit, and she's the town crazy lady--plus a female sheriff who's running against the good ol' boys who don't want a Native American in office team up to figure out who is behind the dangerous things happening in their neighborhood. Atmospheric and suspenseful, Dodd's latest also challenges stereotypes as she uncovers layers upon layers of bad, bad things.

Do You Want to Start a Scandal by Tessa Dare - Fans of funny historical romance love Tessa Dare for her wit and wisdom, and I fully expect this new book to live up to my expectations. In order to clear her own reputation and avoid an unwanted marriage, Charlotte has to figure out who the lovers really were who have caused the scandal. But partnering with her husband-to-be in her sleuthing might not be the best way to stay unentangled after all...

Beautiful by Christina Lauren - The tenth and final book in Lauren's Beautiful series promises to wrap everything up in the most satisfying way. Fingers crossed!

Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads - Yow. This series-starter combines three of my favorite things: suspense, paranormal elements, and luuuuuv. He's a criminal investigator who can read minds. She's the captive of a madman. This is, of course, how the best relationships start.

Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti - Four reasons why I want this book: First, I love Zanetti's writing. Second, I've met her in person and she's intelligent with a marvelously zany edge. Three, I adore the dress that's on this cover. Fourth, Zanetti starts a romantic suspense series with this new book, which means that more books are a-comin'. Can't wait.

Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber - Debbie Macomber was so enthusiastic about this novel when I spoke to her over the summer that I'm now enthusiastic too. The hero and heroine are neighbors, and while she's friendly, he's a jerk in return. As the book description says, "She's going to break through Cain's Scrooge-like exterior the only way she knows how: by killing him with kindness." Let the reindeer games begin!

Sweetest Taboo by J. Kenner - Kenner concludes her pulse-pounding and uber-sexy Stark International series with Sweetest Taboo. Those who like their romances on the scorching side should read books one and two first, as this finale featuring star-crossed step-siblings promises to be a doozy.

Wind River Wrangler by Lindsay McKenna - Cowboy who is also a a former Special Forces operator? Check. Woman on the run from her past? Check. This contemporary western wraps together suspense and romance in a rugged Wyoming package.

When All the Girls Have Gone by Jayne Ann Krentz - I completely fell for Krentz's Secret Sisters last year, and I'm already planning to set a weekend aside to dive into her newest romantic suspense novel.
