Hot in Hellcat Canyon by Julie Anne Long - Hollywood heartthrob JT McCord finds himself captured by the smarts of tavern waitress Britt Langley when he stops in Hellcat Canyon on his way to a friend's wedding. While JT's past has been splashed all over magazines and online gossip sites, Britt has kept her own past tight to her chest, and her neighbors in Hellcat Canyon respect her privacy. Despite their differences, JT and Britt find themselves in an ever-closing orbit to each other until JT's gorgeous ex-girlfriend arrives. What's special about this book is how Long shows both how un-perfect JT and Britt are as human beings but also how beautifully perfect they are for each other. This story has some heart-wrenching moments, too, that plumb deeper than most romances do. You'll want to keep a copy of Hot in Hellcat Canyon for yourself and have a second copy to lend to friends.

Duke of Sin by Elizabeth Hoyt - I'm not the biggest fan of the heroine-reforms-the-bad-boy romance trope, but as readers of Hoyt's Maiden Lane series know, the Duke of Montgomery is not just a bad boy. He's a villain. Ruthless, vain, murderous, soulless. But there's something about his stubborn and secretive housekeeper Bridget Crumb that captures his attention and respect, and the verbal duels between them are stinging. It's a challenge to turn the despicable into the desirable, but Hoyt manages it adroitly through the courtship dance that neither the duke nor Bridget quite realize they're participating in until it's too late for them to step back. Once you're done with this novel, keep your eyes open for the novella Once Upon a Moonlit Night about the noblewoman that the duke thinks he wants to marry, and her adventures after she escapes his clutches.

The Darkest Torment by Gina Showalter - Showalter continues her fantastical and often funny Lords of the Underworld series. Baden is bound by possessed magical cuffs that are slowly dragging him into violent insanity. Only the presence of dog trainer Katarina soothes the beast inside him. Too bad he kidnapped her, which is not the best way to build trust. Showalter's fans will enjoy returning to her crazy supernatural world of demons, gods, and hellhounds. Those who are new to the series should jump in with book 1, The Darkest Night, as her characters and their story arcs intertwine throughout their adventures.

Riverbend Road by RaeAnne Thayne - Police officer Wyn Bailey wants to uphold the tradition of police service that her father, Riverbend's former police chief, instilled in her and her brothers. But when she runs into a burning barn to save two trapped kids, her too-sexy boss, Cade, puts her on leave for defying his direct order to stay outside. Wyn's instincts won't go on vacation, though. Her new neighbor is unusually unfriendly, and Wyn can't stop digging into the night when her dad was shot in the line of duty. As Cade is pulled into her informal investigation, Wyn and Cade realize that their relationship has the potential to go way past professional. Thayne pens a sweet tribute to duty and love in this small-town-set romance that will give you a new appreciation for neighborliness.

Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst - I went into this novel thinking that the hot contractor hero would be the main draw, but I was instantly won over by Morgan Raines, who rules the building of a luxury McMansion for her clients with an iron fist and a hot-pink hard hat. An enormously successful designer who's famous for creating the perfect home for her clients, Morgan has lived out of suitcases for years as she's built her reputation. But the hunky charms of the head of Pierce Brothers Construction could have her considering that it's time for her to have a home of her own too. Probst isn't afraid to turn the knob to "hot" on her stories, but she never forgets that emotion is the ultimate motivator.
