Amazon's Best Books of June: Today's Releases

The GirlsThese Best of the Month selections, available starting today, offer the epic and the epically creepy, starting with Emma Cline's The Girls. Editorial Director Sara Nelson was dubious about this debut from the start. It was getting a lot of buzz, but how could such a young author capture the essence of the 60s, not to mention the emotional complexities of a woman seduced into a Manson-like cult. The verdict?--"The Girls really is as good as they're saying."

Barkskins by Annie Proulx

This book is epic and literally quite large, which is sort of ironic since it's about the destruction of the world's forests. Senior Editor Chris Schluep astutely points out that it's "not a book for the 140 character-based reader. It's a book lover's book."

I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid

Senior Editor Seira Wilson warns that the suspense ratchets up with each turned page of this psychological thriller. "It's like a movie where you almost want to turn away, but of course you can't."

Sons and Daughters of Ease and Plenty by Ramona Ausubel

Editorial Director Sara Nelson says that "it's hard to describe this novel clearly. It's a fable, it's an ultra-realistic look at the class system in America, it's a love story and it's a period piece." And...it's good.
